"It's important to be able to pass a multiple-choice test to get your license as a Captain, Mate or AB, and we certainly prepare our  students to do so. But the test that really matters is proctored by the Pacific Ocean. It's pass/fail, there are no second chances, and no leniency will be shown because the student did well on a written test once. At SMMT, both on the water and in the classroom, preparing our students to pass that test is our number one priority. At SMMT, the 'minimum requirement' is just a starting point."
